In the beginning.

Updated: Mar 6, 2019

So I've never blogged before - y'all may need to be patient with me. I know I wrote about our decision to do this crazy thing we call Camper Life on our About Us page, but I wanted to go a little more in depth here.

So, a little background on myself... I'm a 29 year old Georgia-born, Louisiana-raised hippie chick. I love to read and am a major bibliophile. I also enjoy beaches and nature in general...especially if I'm barefoot! I'm seriously introverted. Like....used to be too scared to ask a waitress where the bathroom was introverted. I've always had these things I wanted to go do and see, but I never thought I'd ever be able to actually do them due to my own nature.

That all changed when I met Chelsea. My wife is a serious nature buff. She LOVES hiking and camping (in tents....like a caveman *shudder*). She's kind of obsessed with mountains, but I think she loves beaches almost as much. She loves puzzles and the way her brain works is just beautiful. There's no other word I can think of to describe it. She's so detail oriented that she was able to do all of the work on our camper herself - even though she'd never done anything like it before.

Chelsea's dream has always been to travel, but she'd never had a partner that was actually interested in that. I honestly wasn't interested in it when we first got together (2015) - the thought of traveling the U.S. like that actually terrified me back then. One of the things that I love about Chelsea is that she pushes me to do things that scare me. Even though she'll hold my hand when I'm too terrified to continue by myself, she still makes me feel like I'm the one that conquered that fear. Because she'd been steadily doing that for me with small things, when we were sitting outside one evening and she jokingly asked if I'd ever live in a camper and travel the U.S. with her, the first thing out of my mouth was "Sure!" which surprised the heck out of both of us! We sat there and dreamed about it - talking long into the night about what we'd need in our dream camper to make life on the road perfect.

[ A little background - we had RV's most of my childhood and spent a lot of time on the road. We were home-schooled so we could just take our school with us! Chelsea had never camped in an RV before.] We kept that dream in the back of our minds, but it was never more than a retirement plan or a daydream.

At the end of 2016, we had a job opportunity present itself for Chelsea...but it was in a whole different state. We thought about it, prayed about it, and finally decided to sell our first home, pack up our life and move to Mississippi in February 2017. We lived there for about a year. The whole time, this thought of "Camper Life" was there in the back of our heads. We'd joke about it and even created a Pinterest board of all of our ideas. We contemplated whether we would buy a brand new camper or an older used one and remodel. We also jokingly planned out what we could do to earn income and actually live on the road. Towards the end of 2017, we suddenly realized we actually had the means to make this happen. After lots of thought, planning & prayer, we decided to do this thing and we haven't looked back since.

It's been a crazy road getting here, but as I sit here typing away on my daybed in our beautiful tiny home that is currently parked in Mexico Beach, FL, I can't say that I have a single regret. :)
